Veeam just got easier

Veeam just got easier

Veeam is already leading the charge in simplicity for backup software and with the release of V10, they have added even more features that make our lives easier. Here’s a few of our favourites here at Vitanium.

Backup job day retention

In V10, backup jobs now have the option to base retention on a number of days rather than a number of restore points. Traditionally retention has always been run by the number of restore points that had been produced. Of course it is easy to figure out how many backup points you need to keep if you’re just running one backup per day, but if you’re running slightly more complicated backup jobs this can start to get tricky. With the new Days Retention setting you can just set the number of days and it doesn’t matter if you do 1 backup on a Monday, 5 on a Tuesday and 100 on a Wednesday, you will always have the right amount of days in retention.

Backup Job Day RetentionGrandfather-Father-Son backup jobs

One of our most popular guides is on the GFS backup method. With V10 of Veeam it’s easier than ever to set up. You can now configure a Grandfather-Father-Son strategy all in one place, rather than setting up backup copy jobs or creating unnecessarily long retention periods to keep backup copies you don’t need. You can also store a copy of your archival backup points to your primary repository without any extra work.

RPO alerts on backup copies

As we all know by now, RPOs and RTOs are incredibly important to meet. V10 brings a new feature that allows you to set your RPOs on backup jobs and it can notify you if your newly created backup point is not copied off-site within your desired threshold. This will help you ensure that should a disaster strike on your primary backups you don’t miss out on saving any critical data.
